raspresso

Raspresso is a software-driven espresso machine designed and built from scratch using a paper composite called Richlite. The idea was to create a unique form factor and use unique materials to build something custom, and supercharging it with software to brew you the best shot.

I worked on this with a colleague and mechinal engineer at Matic named Billy Plummer. We wanted to build wonderful UX features on top of a traditional espresso machine like an RGB light that reflected the water level (green, yellow, and red for empty), weight and heat sensors plugged into software to optimize your espresso shot, redirecting heat from the boiler towards a cup warmer at the top, and tesla-like over the air updates so that tomorrow even my roommate could push a PR that upgraded the machine.

Ultimately, we got about 70% of the way done before Billy had to move back to the UK, and so we never quite finished it, but it was a fun project and an incredible learning experience.
